Telangana University (TU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof D Ravinder Gupta said the NEP (National Education Policy) focuses mostly on students and their quality of research through universities.
He returned to Hyderabad on July 10, Sunday after participating in the three day meeting of Akhil Bharatiya Sikshna Samagamam at Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh from July 6-8. Osmania VC Prof D Ravinder and Kakatiya VC Prof T Ramesh too were present at the meeting from Telangana and AP.
The meeting inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and attended by Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, UGC Chairman Prof Jagadish Kumar, around 400 VCs, higher officials and academicians and experts from higher education field. The meeting comes out with a Varanasi Declaration on making Indian education future ready. Massive changes in education are on the way.
Prof Ravinder Gupta who made a presentation at the Varanasi meeting told Excel India: “NEP aspires to promote a valued based education system that keeps in mind the interests of students and the research needs of higher education sector. Flexible entry and exit of students at every stage and multi-disciplinary curriculum will help students learn more courses and acquire knowledge,” said Prof Ravinder Gupta.
“We at Telangana University are ready to implement this NEP. Academic credit bank will help a student to chose her or his academic future. Efforts are underway to improve our teaching and research standards to meet those of global levels so that our students will excel at the international level. Digital empowerment and online learning will be promoted in the coming days,” the TU VC.
While inaugurating the summit, PM Modi said that the present education system is mostly continuing the model of Lord Macaulay two centuries ago. That model focused on creating clerks for the British regime. Minister Pradhan highlighted the need to allowing international educational institutions into the country so that there would be greater competition and exchange of best practices.
