War 2 in all languages is running to packed shows. As far as Telugu version is concerned, most of the talk is about who is the hero – Hritihk Roshan or Jr NTR – in the film. Naturally, NTR fans are not happy the way his role is projected in somewhat negative shade – not so patriotic, while Hrithik is a pucca solider who believes in his mentor’s mantra – nation first. Of course, heroine, Kiara too is a patriotic solider who is ready to sacrifice her love – for Hrithik – too.
Too many patriots. At the same time, too many anti-Indians – from across the globe, particularly from our neighboring countries – under a common name of Kali – underworld network that seeks to control India and its government. We exactly don’t know their intentions but certainly they don’t want to see India developed as a vibrant democracy. Too many fight sequences and action scenes between Hrithik and NTR and even some with Kiara. These three believed to have taken remunerations of – Hrithik Rs 48 crore, NTR Rs 60 crore and Kiara Rs 15 crore.
What critics say
In War 2, we have Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, the today’s A-listers representing the North and the South cinemas, play frenemies Kabir and Vikram. A unique but perfect picture of national integration, on paper, said a leading national news channel.
Hrithik’s Major Kabir Dhaliwal, who is RAW’s perfect warrior, returns in a fitter, more ferocious avatar in this sequel, with Jr NTR ably lending him a hand in all the heavy lifting as fellow intelligence officer Vikram Chelapathy AKA Raghu, who is almost like Kabir and yet nothing like him. Turns out that they are childhood friends from a Mumbai slum, says a leading film critic.
War 2 sees Hrithik and Jr NTR aim for a Sholay-like bromance if it were set in the Yash Raj Films’s Spy Universe and if Jai and Veeru were frenemies, but end up starring in a slog of a film at a close 3-hour runtime.
This sequel to War, directed by Ayan Mukerji, takes the viewers on globetrotting journey to at least 10 countries, stuffing episodes from the six of them in the post credits scene.
Finally, it is a happy ending – both Hrithik and NTR surviving a brutal fighting climax and both together eliminate all gangsters of Kali underworld network and declare that nation is first to them. We may have to wait for the next movie from the Yash Raj’s spy universe. There is a hint that both Hrithik and NTR may be there in the next movie too. Good for action lovers!
