For former Rajya Sabha MP J Santosh Kumar, the world photography day is always special. Because, that serves him two purposes – to nurture his hobby as a photographer and also to promote a cause closer to his heart – conserving ecology and wildlife. Santosh who founded Green India Challenge some seven years ago to spread greenery took to photography three years ago, for the same cause.

He started posting on Twitter, now X, photos of wildlife and nature as part of his Sunday Photography. With  tags  like #Weekendphotography, #HappySunday, he has been continuing these posts, irrespective of his busy political schedules, during and after elections. We at Excel India regularly cover his photos, for the singular purpose of encouraging this young MP and his fans for this cause.

After all, in our India, not many politicians, leave alone MPs and MLAs, spare their time for any social cause.   What stood Santosh out of them is his commitment to green cause. He uses photography for preserving nature, wildlife and greenery. Many people, cutting across age, gender and status, have been following him on X for his posts. Most of them say, they got inspired by him to champion the same cause.

Inspiring others

It’s good to club a hobby or passion for photography for a social purpose. In this Santosh has succeeded in inspiring others. Already, a coffee table book has been published on his photos of birds and some more may some soon. On August 19, Monday, he posted on X pics of an owl, a tiger and a lion  – marking world photography day. “I strive to showcase the mesmerizing that surrounds us in the animal kingdom,” said he on X.

As today we also celebrate Raksha Bandhan festival, how about tying a Rakhi (or imagining) to our wildlife fraternity and taking a pledge to save them?
