Om Raut- Prabhas’ big budget blockbuster “Adipurush” has grossed Rs 160 crore collections at the box office world over by the first weekend, Sunday, June 18. Made on a liberal budget of around Rs 500 crore, this Hindi and Telugu bilingual movie is sure to run into profits by 3 to 4 weeks, as per trade pundits. The movie is dubbed into Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada.
Om Raut directed the film and Prabhas with his Pan India image played the lead role of Raghava and Kriti Sanon as Janaki. Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan donned the role of Ravana, lending the film its weight to this 179 minute movie. Though the film is based on two chapters (Aranya Kanda and Yuddha Kanda) of Ramayana epic, stylisation of characters – Rama, Sita and Ravana – looked realistic or closer to period movies.
Commenced during pandemic times of October 2020, Adipurush took its own time, more than a year to shoot and another year for post-production works. Finally, it is released into theaters on June 16, Friday. Cinematography by Karthik Palani, music score by Sanchit Balhara and Ankit Balharao, and songs by Ajay Atul and Sanchit-Parampara. Editing by Apurva Motwale, Sahai and Ashish Mhatre.
Though there are some minor controversies around it, Adipurush could create a degree of hype before the release. The producers, Bhushan Kumar of T Series and others and UV Creations is one of the distributors, heaved a sight of relief as the hype continued for the first three days of release. It will go on for another few weeks, as there are no major big star movies for coming days.
Normally, movies like Adipurush draw audience over a prolonged period as families plan to watch them over the days. As per estimates of trade analysts, the movie is sure to get back its production costs besides making solid profits by the time its completes its market forays, into digital and satellite rights etc.
