Rama Krishna Sangem
Former Rajya Sabha MP J Santosh Kumar this Sunday, May 4, captured in his camera lens a beautiful Yellow Wattled Lapwing in the surroundings of Hyderabad. If he caught a green vine snake last week, he posted on X four pics of this Yellow Wattled Lapwing, coolly sitting on a brownish ground this week. Both are somehow related to sweltering heat and upcoming monsoon. For lapwings, March to May is breeding time when they lay eggs and hatch them.
Santosh, founder leader of Green India Challenge which he launched when he became an MP eight years ago, still nurtures the same spirit, in spite of leaving office currently. His #weekend photography has become a tool to sensitize people about environment and wildlife and at the same time to express his love for the same. Notably, he developed a consistent base of followers who admire the beauty of nature in its myriad forms.
Wattled Lapwing
These Wattled Lapwings are regulars in our Deccan plateau but rarely sighted due to their seasonal movements. Look at this picture, this mid-sized bird is of three distinct colours – a black cap, yellow wattle and bottom and brownish body. Going by their long legs, we can easily guess that they are mostly ground based birds, with short flights. Just any other ground based birds, they too guard their chic for some time and leave. We just cannot admire their skill to weave nests of pebble and gross.
A perfect summer project material for our youngsters!
