Rama Krishna Sangem
Bharat Rashtra Samithi Rajya Sabha member J Santosh Kumar clicked a rare North Indian bird species, Indian Paradise flycatcher – a tiny sparrow type avian, mostly seen in Delhi and Himachal Pradesh areas of forests. This small yet cute bird has many specialties – split tail, more than double its body size and multiple colours – white body and green or blue head etc.
Santosh tweeted on the morning of Sunday, April 2, four pics of this bird apparently taken by his Nikon 850 camera, a day after he was awarded Green Ribbon Champion by Network 18 media group. The MP has been posting pics of birds and wildlife as part of his #SundayPhotography. This is to inspire youth to take to saving nature and wildlife but not causing harm to it.
Santosh is the founder leader of Green India Challenge, GIC, which prompted thousands of people from all walks of life to plant saplings on important occasions in their life – whether birthday, marriage day or festivals too. Capture wildlife through your camera, not physically, is the slogan of Santosh who spreads his green message. Soon he will be launching Green clubs in educational institutions to involve the students too.
Flycatchers, unique birds
The birds of this week, Indian Paradise Flycatchers are a genus of birds, of common sparrows. They are tiny, with shrill voice, long tail, crown like feathers on heads. They are cute to look, but intelligent in their survival instincts, said a bird watcher from Hyderabad. No wonder, many who liked Sanotsh pics on Sunday said they never saw flycatchers like this before. By Sunday evening, the pics got 6,637 views, 252 likes and 40 retweets.
