BRS leader and former MP J Santosh Kumar this Sunday, April 21, captured on his camera four pics of a beautiful bird, Large Cuckooshrike with a fruit in its mouth. Over the past two years plus, Santosh, founder of Green India Challenge, appears to have mastered bird photography, as his pics showcase the winged guests in action. He posted these pics on X in the morning, getting around 3,000 views, 128 likes and some reposts.

As we know, this summer is harsh not just for us, but also for flora and fauna, due to water shortage. This affects greenery and trees. Birds which thrive on trees are the worst hit for food and water. Scanty rainfall and near heat wave conditions hit birds most. The photos of this large cuckooshirke, as mentioned by a commentator to Santosh’s post, seems lucky, as it is grappling with a small fruit in its beak.’

Intelligent birds

Cuckooshrikes are found mostly in and around Hyderabad. They are beautiful for their colour and appearance. The bird in this post is a male as its eye is circled by a black frame. They are intelligent with enough survival tactics. Some bird watchers say, these cuckooshirkes have many sub-species, depending on the location. They can be seen in large numbers in Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
