Rama Krishna Sangem
Former BRS Rajua Sabha MP J Santosh Kumar captured in his camera this Sunday, July 28, a beautiful Indian Koel on a lush green tree branch savoring a fruit. The Koel, must be female, symbolizes the greenery prevailing around us these days, particularly after copious rains for the last two weeks. Rains, vegetation, greenery, birds – are a chain of nature’s richness.
Santosh, founder leader of Green India Challenge, has completed six yeas and entered seventh year of his greenery campaign. Thousands of people from all walks of life have planted tens of thousands of saplings across the country in these years. Recently, he celebrated the seventh edition of GIC with a theme of Green Earth, Cool Earth. Odisha assembly speaker Surama Padhy joined Santosh and his team on the occasion.
Santosh has been posting every Sunday photos of nature, wildlife and birds for the last few years to bring awareness among people about our flora and fauna. These pics have inspired many to plant saplings and promote greenery. Notably, he has been championing this social cause apolitically. This Sunday’s photos posted on X at 9 am got 1,260 views 85 likes by 11.30 am.
Koels intelligent, but vulnerable
On paper, Koels are placed on least concern category of the endangered birds list. But, they are vulnerable to many pressures s- from nature and humans. Of course, humans too cause natural pressures on our wildlife, due to shrinking forest and green cover. Some call them nightingales, though there is some difference between them. Koels are well entrenched in our culture, because of sweet voice. Haven’t we heard of titles to best singers with koels?
