IIT Hyderabad hosts Smart India Hackathon on Dec 11,12

IIT Hyderabad (IITH) is proud to host grand finale of the 7th edition of the Smart India Hackathon (SIH) – Software Edition on December 11 and 12 under the aegis of the Ministry of Education and AICTE. This year, SIH is being held simultaneously across 51 centres nationwide, with IITH serving as a host for the first time.

The event will be inaugurated virtually by Union Minister for Education, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan. Dr Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director of NAARM, will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest at IITH. The program will be led by Prof. B.S. Murty, Director of IIT Hyderabad, along with Prof. C. Malla Reddy, Dean of Innovation, Translation, and Startups.

Prof. BS Murty highlighted the significance of the event, stating, “The Smart India Hackathon (SIH) is a transformative initiative by the Government of India that bridges the aspirations of India’s youth with the nation’s vision for Viksit Bharat 2047. More than just a competition, SIH is a dynamic platform that fosters innovation, entrepreneurship, and creative problem-solving—critical drivers for shaping the future of education and industry. Encouraging students to address real-world challenges lies at the core of SIH’s mission.

By solving critical issues in areas like agriculture, healthcare, sustainability, and technology, students create solutions that are practical, scalable, and socially impactful. These efforts have a ripple effect, benefiting local communities while positioning India as a global leader in innovation.”

Prof. C. Malla Reddy, Dean of Innovation, Translation, and Startups, extended a warm welcome to all participants, expressing his enthusiasm for their contributions to the event. He remarked, “IITH is honored to host the SIH Grand Finale for the first time, with a special focus on the theme of Agriculture. This emphasis underscores our commitment to addressing critical challenges in this sector and driving impactful solutions through innovation and collaboration”

SIH Grand Finale at IIT Hyderabad: IITH is proudly hosting the SIH Grand Finale for the first time, focusing on the theme of “Agriculture”.

Participants will tackle four key problem statements: 1. Mobile App for Direct Market Access for Farmers, 2. AI-Driven Crop Disease Prediction and Management System, 3. Sustainable Fertilizer Usage Optimizer for Higher Yield, 4.Assured Contract Farming System for Stable Market Access,

A total of 26 teams, consisting of over 200 participants and mentors from across the nation, will collaborate to address these challenges. Four winning teams will be honored with a cash prize of one lakh rupees each, which will be awarded by the Chief Guest during the valedictory function on 12th December 2024.
