A 100 year old banyan tree got a fresh lease of life, thanks to the support from TRS working president and Municipal Minister KTR and Rajya Sabha MP J Santosh Kumar. The tree got rebirth after a month long efforts of a team of experts as it is transplanted next to Siricilla new secretariat.
The dream of a youngster to give life to a tree that fell due to heavy rains became a reality with blessings from Minister Sri KT Rama Rao, special initiative taken by MP Sri J Santosh Kumar and with cooperation from the district collector. Four months ago, due to unprecedented heavy rains, on the outskirts of Suddala village in Konaraopet Mandal in Rajanna Sircilla district, in the agriculture land of Burra Bhumaiah Goud and Burra Ramesh Goud, 70 year old Banyan tree was fell down and uprooted. Due to lack of water it started drying up and appeared as though it was dead. Dr Dobbala Prakash, from the same village who is a lover of nature and who believed in the dictum Vriksha Rakshitah Raksha was upset at the fall of the Banyan tree, which gave shelter to humans and birds alike. He thought if water is provided the tree may come back to life. He immediately spoke to farmers Bhumaiah and Ramesh and said he would transplant the tree at a different place. He also took permission from Dobbala das who is owner of neighbouring field to draw water from his well. Ramesh who works as Telangana Sanskriti Sarathi in Rajanna Sircilla PRO office, supplied water to the tree for two months while discharging his official duties. Prakash efforts yielded good results and the tree started sprouting new leaves. Prakash continued his efforts with more vigor and the tree also responded well with green leaves and shooting of new roots. Finally Prakash decided that the tree should be replanted if live forever. Then he searched for the donors to take care of the expenses, which are rather huge as the tree should be lifted, transported and replanted. He shared this concern with Siddipet PRO Dasaratham who helped him to publish a series of stories on Prakash efforts in the print media and broadcast in electronic media. MP Santosh Kumar, who launched Green India Challenge programme all over the country to protect the environment and reduce pollution in tune with CM KCR’s Telangana Haritha Haram saw the media stories and moved by Prakash’s intention and efforts. While congratulating Prakash on twitter, Santosh Kumar assured that he would help out. On Feb 17, in his tweet Santosh Kumar promissed Prakrithi Prakash that it would be his responsibility to shift the tree to a safer place. As promissed by Santosh Kumar, VATA founder Udaya Krishna Peddireddi, members Madhan Somadri, Nisha Khurana, Srinivas Goud, Ramkumar Putcha, Karun Nimmakayala, Prakash Gajjala did hard work for a week and removed the branches and kept the tree ready for the re-plantation. The real trouble came now as the tree had to be transported from Suddhala Village in Konaraopet Mandal to the new Collectorate office, 6 Kms distance. A special raod was laid for the easy transportation of the tree. They arrangments were made to carry a huge vehicle, which can transport 100 tonne-weighing tree. When a single crane with 70 tonnes capacity could not lift the tree, another Crane with the same capacity was pressed into service. On Sunday it was planned to life the tree at 8 AM and replant it by 10 AM at the Collectorate. But the tree was transported and replanted at 12.30 PM after it was lifted at 10 AM. Two large branches from the mother tree were planted at Zillella forest area in Tangannapalli mandal. Santosh took personal care for transplantation MP Santosh took a very special care about the programme and he was constantly in touch with Prakash at every point of time. Green India Challenge Co founder Raghava was also in touch with Prakash and conveyed the communication to the MP on a regular basis. Santosh Kumar said that the entire process was possible due to blessings from Minister KTR. He said since they earnestly believed in CM KCR’s statements that if trees are alive human life can also be alive and took up the re-plantation work and successfully done it.
