Senior BJP leader and Malkajigiri MP Etela Rajender has demanded that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy should at once release all pending dues to the local bodies, particularly to gram panchayats. “The situation of local bodies has worsened after Congress government came to power last December. Many of the sarpanches are on the verge of mental stress as their pending bill piled up with the state government,” said Rajender.
Rajender, also BJP national executive member, held a media conference at the party state office, Nampally, Hyderabad on September 26, Wednesday, along with some other party seniors. As the term of the gram panchayats has expired more than a year ago, the village bodies have not been able to draw funds from the centre, as per the statutory obligations. This is affecting the developmental activities at the village level, said Rajender.
The MP said that the Congress government which is unable to release funds to several sectors including the important ones like rural employment guarantee scheme, people at the gross roots lave had been suffering. Other sections like the managements of private educational institutions and private hospitals too have been forced to come on to the streets to get their dues release.
Rajender expressed his solidarity to the agitating sarpanches and vowed to intensify the stir, unless the government immediately clears the dues. Rajender also pointed out to the Congress election promise that BCs would be given 42 per cent reservation in the local bodies, but hasn’ t kept its word. “We demand this government to implement the increased quota to the BCs and hold elections to the panchayats,” said the MP.
