BRS Rajya Sabha MP J Santosh Kumar who celebrated his 43rd birthday on December 7, Thursday said his brainchild Green India Challenge would go on in spite of ruling party’s electoral defeat in the just concluded assembly elections of Telangana. Not just that, the young MP continued his pet project of #Weekend photography of nature and birds, even in the middle of elections and campaigning.
We, at Excel India missed to carry his weekend photograph for two weeks, due to hectic elections and counting of votes last fortnight. In an X post on his birthday, Santosh said: “The #Green India Challenge is a dynamic initiative that aims to #plant trees, #protect our environment and promote sustainable practices. This movement emphasizes that creating a green India is an ongoing process where each act of planting contributes to safeguarding our planet and future”.
“Did my part by planting a sapling as part of #GreenIndiaChallenge initative on my birthday today,” said he. And what? Around 25,000 viewed and 388 liked it. Many thought that Santosh’s GIC campaign would hit pause button if ruling BRS looses power. But, that hasn’t happened. Going by the friends and supporters of Santosh, his call for promoting trees an environment is almost intact, rising above politics.
Precisely for this reason, Excel India always supported his GIC and weekend photography. Some have asked me if we at Excel India are sponsored by GIC or MP Santosh, because we regularly carry the pics. But, the fact is that we cheered him – a rare politician who took up a broader cause – of fighting for nature and future of our generations. Its importance has been understood in Western countries but not in India. We wish Santosh and his team all the best.
Though he started GIC as a campaign for planting of saplings and spreading the cause of Telangana Ku Harita Haaram, a drive by former CM KCR six years ago, Santosh gradually expanded his focus on all issues related to environment or ecology. He visited many wildlife sanctuaries and fought for the cause of vultures, tigers and other endangered species. His birds photos have become the talk of the town.
Lovely minivet
This Sunday, December 10, Santosh posted pics of a small minivet on a branch of tree. This cute and lovely colourful small bird stands stark against the grey background of fall season’s dull hues. Just as a fan of Santosh commented on X, this minivet is beautifully captured. This bird is seen in many bright colours and attractive among all the winged. This small minivets are social and move in groups. To click them, one needs some patience and passion.
