BRS Rajya Sabha MP J Santosh Kumar has shared a short video of a leopard moving around Gol Bunglow watch tower at KCR Urban Park, 12 km from Mahabubnagar district headquarter. This park has been developed by the reserved forest officials under Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s pet scheme – Telangana Harita Haram.

“The#HarithaHaram, a brainchild initiative from our Honorable CM KCR sir, is producing incredible results! Check this out today, a#leopard was spotted near Gol Bunglow watch tower at KCR Urban Park, Appanapally village, Mahabubnagar dsitrict. Kudos to our CM’s determination to increase green cover throughout #Telangana,” tweeted Santosh on June 3, Saturday.

In this 15 seconds clip, a leopard walks up to a podium like watch tower and stares back to see if anyone is observing it. The capture, apparently by cameras of forest department, shared by the MP went viral and seen by 12,500 people and got 336 likes. This KCR urban park is opened for public recently by BRS working president and Municipal Minister KT Rama Rao. Local Tourism minister V Srinivas Goud took care to develop this park.

When this park was opened for public, the officials said, small wild animals like deer, monkeys and peacocks etc can be seen by visitors. They never mentioned leopards as possible visitors to the park. Though this area is close to Amrabad tiger zone where leopards roam around. Now that the big cats are spotted here, the forest officials need to be alert mode as public come to the park in large numbers on weekends.

Flock of birds

Flocks of birds

As part of his #SundayPhotography, Santosh this week posted a flock of some small birds – Scaly Breasted Munia – sitting on a branch of tree. They look happy souls, but unfortunately, they are caught and traded in the market, for their good designer looks. In the market they also are called Spice Finch. As per a bird watcher in Hyderabad, there are a dozen of subspecies of this bird, which is originally from Australia but commonly found in India.

One of the tasks before bird lovers or watchers is to prevent birds trade, mostly illegal in nature. Keeping them as pets too is not desirable, as our winged companions prefer to freely fly. Restricting them is nothing but imprisoning. MP Santosh has been posting his #WeeklyDoseofPhotography to bring awareness among public on nature, wildlife and environments.
