Dr BR Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU) Vice Chancellor Prof K Seetharama Rao has been appointed as a member of Advisory Council of CEMCA (Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia). Prof Rao will hold this position for a period of three years. Commonwealth of Learning (COL) of which CEMCA is a part, is established in 1994 and accorded full international status by Government of India.
Commonwealth of Learning President and CEO Prof Asha Kanwar sent a letter to Prof Seetharama Rao informing of this appointment. “As a highly valued member of the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) community, I would like to invite you to CEMCA,” said Prof Asha Kanwar. The 8 member advisory council is responsible for broad policy formulation, mentoring and evaluation of CEMCA.
CEMCA’s objectives include promoting cooperation and collaboration in the use of electronic media resource for scaling up of innovative models for preparing open, blended and technology enabled education and skill development in the region. This Canada based Commonwealth of Learning is established in 1987 by the Commonwealth of Heads of Governments to promote the cause of education sustainably.
Speaking to Excel India, Prof Seetharama Rao said: “I am extremely grateful and happy that COL President and CEO Prof Asha Kanwar has recognized my passion and contributions to the field of open and distance learning close to a decade. I am sure; this membership in the advisory council of CEMCA will help me serve the student community and expanding the scope and standards of open and distance learning”.
Prof Seetharama Rao will be travelling to Canada later this month to participate in a three day international conference of Tenth Pan-Commonwealth Forum on Open Learning (PCF10), from September 14-16. Athabasca University is a co-host of this conference, with the theme of “Innovations for Educational Resilience“.
This the second term as VC of BRAOU for Prof Seetharama Rao, appointed in mid 2021. He is known for introducing many new courses and harnessing technology for expanding and consolidating open, distance and flexible learning methods at BRAOU, a leading open university not only in India but respected among the commonwealth countries too.
