Former Rajya Sabha MP and green cause champion J Santosh Kumar has thrilled his fans of Green India Challenge as well as others by posting on X a minute long video – of a tiger chased away by a mighty guar at Tadoba reserved forest in neighboring Maharashtra on this Sunday, June 9. He went to Tadoba to capture a tiger there for his weekly photography hobby.
This clip is loved by more than 4,600 people who viewed it while many shared and liked it. “Just returned from an incredible visit to Tadoba Tiger Reserve. Managed to film the majestic Tiger Shimbhu stalking a mighty guar (bison), only to witness the tables turn a the gaur chased him away. Huge thanks to Banda Aravind for making this unforgettable experience possible,” said Santosh.
Tadoba Guars
Now over to Tadoab guars! Many may have heard and seen pics of Tiger Shimbhu in Tadoba Tiger Reserve, an agile and high powered big cat there. Gaur, an indigenous bovine specific to India and other South Asian countries is often prefixed with mighty. This is the largest living bovine. They are included in endangered list of bovine animals and there are only 21,000 of them in the world.
Luckily, most of them, close to 60 per cent are located in India. With up to 8 ft height and 6 ft length and a weight of around 1,200 km, these guars are usually treated as prey to tigers or lions. But, thanks to sword-like horns and superb energy, most times they chase away tigers. This is one of such rare spectacle of a guar chasing away a tiger in Tadoba Tiger Reserve.
