After realizing that the condition of BJP in Uttar Pradesh is that rosy, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has swung into action and assumed charge of electioneering in the state. Earlier, the party had nominated Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan as UP in charge, but he couldn’t handle things to the satisfaction of the PM.
CM Yogi Adityanath appeared overconfident that their “double-engine growth” slogan would work wonders in UP. Double engine means the leadership of BJP at both the Central and state levels. Much to his surprise, Samajwadi Party chief and former CM Akhilesh Yadav has snatched three ministers and six MLAs from BJP, a big loss of face to Yogi.
In this scenario, Amit Shah has stepped in and started directly coordinating things in the party. Last weekend, he personally campaigned door to door in Kairana in western UP and urged voters to send BJP to power for a second term. To undo the damage done by the exit of SP Mourya and other OBC leaders, Shah has also forged an alliance with two OBC parties – Apna Dal and Nishad Party.
