Leading Telugu TV news broadcasting media V6′ s digital wing, YouTube channel has crossed a milestone of 10 million subscribers on February 5, Monday. This can be said to be a major achievement for a TV channel that solely focuses on Telangana and its culture. V6 started its digital media on January 26, 2013 and within no time built its fan following Telugu speaking people across the globe rapidly.
There is another TV news channel that is slightly ahead of V6 in terms of subscriber base, but that channel covers both the Telugu states and commenced its YouTube wing a couple of years earlier. “What’s significant about V6’s achievement of 10 million (one crore) subscribers is that our growth is organic and steady,” said senior editorial member of V6 channel, talking to Excel India on February 6, Tuesday.
V6 that commenced its TV channel in 2012, amidst turbulent days of separate Telangana agitation, has come up with many innovative programmes and shows that were unique to Telangana culture and accent. Promoted by VIL Media Private Limited, V6 has produced many folk singers and news anchors who later moved on to other platforms and made their name.
In fact, V6 set a trend in Telugu non-filmy songs culture over the years. Be it Bathukamma or Bonalu or any other major festival in Telangana, the channel came up with its exclusive video songs that were super hit among the masses. People used to wait for V6 songs and play them during the festivities. “Though V6 management has political affiliations all through, they never confined to one particular political party in coverage,” Soma Srinivas, a viewer of V6 said.
Credibility our asset: Ravi Ankam
With around 2.91 lakh videos to its credit on the digital platform – YouTube, V6 came up with news, entertainment and cultural shows in these many years. V6 in 2018 also came up with Telugu newspaper, Velugu. Asked about the factors that contributed to 10 million subscriber base, V6 founder CEO and editor Ravi Ankam told Excel India that: “We built our credibility among our viewers who constantly encouraged us to achieve this significant milestone”.
