Monsoon magic, a collection of colourful birds figured in BRS Rajya Sabha MP J Santosh Kumar’s Weekend  Photography this Sunday, July 30. The choice of colours is nothing accidental but a reflection of bountiful rains that lashed this part of the country. Humans may have felt discomfort due to the heavy rains, but nature – flora and fauna, including birds appear definitely jubilant.

Santosh’s tweets posted at 7.45 am got good response from tweeple. The four pics of four cute birds got not less than 4,246 views, 255 likes, 59 retweets by 1 pm. As one of commentators Heeresh Dubey pointed out, these are pics of a Kingfisher, Cuckoo, Common myna and a Minivet. “Birds of different feathers flock together in the region,” aptly said he, underlining the season’s beauty and the richness of greenery.

As most of twitterati agreed, the bountiful of tree cover in Telangana, due to various factors and multiple efforts, has made it possible to see a range of birds in and around Hyderabad city and parts of Telangana. Santosh founded Green India Challenge too is part of those efforts. CM KCR’s focus on Telangana Ku Harita Haaram has inspired many, including Santosh to spread the green cover.

Say No to birds trade

Colourful birds may be a delight to bird lovers, but they are equally vulnerable to illegal trade. Most people, wittingly or unwittingly prefer to keep them in cages as pets. More the colourful they are, more are they vulnerable. Most don’t know which birds can be kept as pets and which cannot be. As forest officials say, illegal trade thrives due to ignorance and lack of knowledge about birds behavior. They are best set free.

This week, Santosh shared an interesting yet heart touching story of Kotrika Vijaya Laxmi who searches her lost husband, in a tree he planted on his birthday in response to #GreenIndiaChallenge. “Heartwarming scenes, #KotrikaVijayaLaxmi garu, a strong, determined lady searching for her lost husband amidst the tree he planted on his birthday as part of #GIC,” tweeted Santosh.

“Every year on his birthday, the family celebrates at this tree, shwoing their affection and bonding. Let’s applaud the dedication and the power of love that unites them with nature, #LoveAndGreenery” goes his tweet. We can see Vijaya Laxmi and other family members beautifully decorating the tree with balloons and flowers and offering Puja prayers at its feet.
